A Scorching Night Ends in Midlakes’ First Home Loss
On a sweltering Tuesday evening at Bellevue College, Midlakes United took its first home loss of 2026, falling 4-0 to Snohomish United.
The night’s difficulties began early. Two minutes in, a scramble in the Midlakes box ended in misfortune when an attempted clearance from Arjun Venkat ricocheted off fellow defender Tommaso Casadei for an own goal. Snohomish doubled the lead in the 35th minute, winning a penalty off Casadei’s sliding challenge in the area. Forward Edgar Leon sent goalkeeper Will Ficek the wrong way to convert. Four minutes later, defender Jack Civitts floated a cross to the top of the box, where midfielder Beckham Uderitz arrived to hammer a first-touch shot into the back of the net.
Midlakes had its moments. In the 15th minute, winger Riley Cotton carried the ball deep into Snohomish territory and slipped it to Trey Mitchell, whose shot drew a strong save from Snohomish goalkeeper Kenny Pierpoint. Mitchell was the home side’s most persistent threat, finishing with four shots, three on target. Reise Corpuz worked tirelessly in midfield, covering ground end to end and delivering dangerous crosses from the right.
Possession was close to even. But Snohomish showed more strength whenever it had the ball, outshooting Midlakes with a higher on-target rate.
Leon earned a brace in the 60th minute. Countering from a dangerous Midlakes attack, he combined with former Midlakes player Cooper Brunell on a quick give-and-go before steering a one-on-one shot just beyond Ficek’s reach.
Ficek played all 90 minutes, facing eight shots on target and saving five. Midlakes managed 13 shots, five on target, but could not beat Pierpoint.
The last two home dates of the regular season are next. Ballard FC comes to Bellevue College on Saturday, June 27, followed by the Portland Bangers on Friday, July 3.
